Microsoft wil NU er vol in gaan, ze zien het potentieel naderen !! Microsoft is interested in buying up bankrupt digital TV outfit, ITV Digital. The US software giant is thought to be putting together a consortium to acquire the company, having requested information packs from administrators Deloitte and Touche. The accountancy firm said that Microsoft is one of 60 potential buyers to have come forward so far. TUT.

Sunday April 28, 12:28 pm Eastern Time Reuters Business Founding TV groups close ranks after ITV Digital LONDON, April 28 (Reuters) - The television firms that founded ITV Digital will this week try to put the collapse of their pay-TV venture behind them and focus on maintaining their positions as a force in mainstream British television. ADVERTISEMENT For Granada (GAA.L) and Carlton (CCM.L), this means a hard look at their core business -- the free-to-air ITV broadcasting network they operate together, and a chance to go back to the unfinished business of preparing an eventual merger between the two. Media antitrust laws that currently restrict the pairing could be relaxed by next summer, and initial merger talks stalled in February just as ITV Digital's problems began to pile up. "The strategic logic of a single ITV is inescapable," Granada Chief Executive Charles Allen told the Sunday Telegraph newspaper. "It is what shareholders want and I'm sure it will happen." The Independent on Sunday said Granada held a board meeting on Friday at which Allen was given authority to pursue a deal with Carlton. Granada was not available for a statement on Sunday and a Carlton spokesman declined to comment. But one industry insider said both the companies and investors wanted to put behind them the ITV Digital debacle and the advertising slump that helped cause it. "It's been a pretty awful advertising downturn... and what everybody wants is to see is a return to running ITV properly," he told Reuters. "Relations are good between the companies." As Granada and Carlton turned their backs on ITV Digital, potential buyers poured over the remains. The operation went into administration last month owing football clubs 178.5 million pounds ($259 million) in fees for the rights to screen matches. According to one newspaper report, the software giant Microsoft Corp (NasdaqNM:MSFT - news) is among those that have asked administrators Deloitte and Touche for an information pack. The administrators began a fire sale of the assets of the world's first digital TV operation on Thursday, after failing to find a buyer for the business or do a deal with its main creditor, the English Football League, which represents clubs outside the elite Premiership division. The collapse could spell doom for dozens of football clubs that depend heavily on TV rights for funds. CLEARER BY MIDWEEK According to a source familiar with discussions, talks between the Football League, administrators and other parties are "ongoing", and by the middle of next week it should become clearer whether the administrators have been able to find a buyer for ITV Digital's TV football licence, or whether the licence will be revoked and a new sponsor sought. Neither the Football League nor ITV Digital's administrators could be reached for comment on Sunday. ITV Digital's collapse is a blow to Britain's ambition of becoming the world's first fully digital TV nation by 2010. The sale of assets puts its 1.26 million customers up for grabs and could play into the hands of the nation's biggest pay-TV firm, Rupert Murdoch's BSkyB (BSY.L), which already owns the rights to elite Premiership football TV. biz.yahoo.com/rb/020428/media_itv_1.html
