Fugro to conduct geophysical and geotechnical surveys of Eastern HVDC link
SEN, National Grid and ST have contracted Fugro GM Marine Limited to carry out geophysical and geotechnical site investigations for the proposed Eastern HVDC link between Torness and Hawthorn Pit.
Fugro Venturer will conduct offshore Geophysical operations on 24 hours basis at the Eastern HVDC Link site, for approximately 5 to 6 weeks from 17th October. The dates of the operations are subject to change, according to the weather conditions.
The near-shore geophysical operations will be carried out by the Fugro Valkyrie, over approximately 6-7 weeks, from 22nd October.
The Geotechnical surveys are expected to commence on 8th November 2020, using Fugro Venturer, while the near-shore Geotechnical operations will be conducted from Coastal Chariot between 28th October and 11th November 2020.
The 2 GW Eastern HVDC Link will be a 155 km long electricity connection between Torness and Hawthorn Pit. The proposed link is scheduled to be completed by 2027, with cable installation expected in 2026.
