Ik heb het niet over de waarde van de maps, maar puur kijkend naar de kosten die ervoor gemaakt zijn.
TeleAtlas begon in de jaren 80, was beursgenoteerd in Frankfurt en heeft tegen heel veel kosten en manuren Europa zelf in kaart gebracht. Ging daarna van Frankfurt naar de Asterdamse beurs voor 1,7 miljard.
Van dat geld hebben ze allerlei mapping bedrijven gekocht, de duurste in de VS, maar ook een zooitje in Azie. Europa deden ze zelf al. TeleAtlas maakte amper winst (wel positieve cashflow) op een omzet rond de 250 miljoen. Het gros van de inkomsten werd dus ge-herinvesteerd in de maps.
Daarna kocht TomTom TeleAtlas voor 2,9 miljard in 2007.
Er is daarna door TomTom denk ik (kijkend naar de EBIT cijfers van Licensing maar ook automotive waar maps in zitten) nog rond de 200 miljoen in maps wordt geinvesteerd. Waarvan de helft in onderhoud en de helft in uitbreiding. Uitbreiding wordt gerapporteerd onder R&D kosten en onderhoud onder administrative kosten.
Alles bij elkaar denk ik dat er tegen de 4 miljard is geinvesteerd in de kaarten van TomTom. Dat is ongeveer 18 euro per aandeel.
