    Dendreon's Provenge In Trouble?

    Investors clamoring to buy a piece of Dendreon sent shares of the drug maker higher on Monday, drowning out an analyst’s warning that the stock is a risky bet.

    In a note on Monday, Brean Murray Carret & Co analyst Jonathan Aschoff said it is unlikely that the Food and Drug Administration will ultimately approve Dendreon’s Provenge vaccine, a prostate cancer treatment. Despite the caution, investors remained positive on the stock and shares surged 17.1%, or $3.09, to $21.24 during morning trading.

    “The stock is rising on investor optimism, which should continue to climb until the FDA releases its final decision,” Aschoff said in an interview on Monday.

    Dendreon (nasdaq: DNDN - news - people ) shares have quadrupled since an FDA panel recommended Provenge for approval last month. But Aschoff said the “potential approval of Provenge could set [a] dangerous double standard in FDA policy.”

    Recently, the FDA rejected Pharmacyclics's (nasdaq: PCYC - news - people ) application for Xcytrin, a lung cancer drug, because the drug failed to meet the primary goals of its trials, Aschoff said in a note. Similarly, Provenge failed to meet the key endpoints of its phase three trials.

    Like Provenge, Xcytrin showed statistical significance in a pooled analysis.

    “We are very surprised when comparing the Xcytrin and Provenge regulatory pathways, as one virtually mirrors the other, yet Xcytrin’s NDA [New Drug Application] was rejected and Provenge’s accepted,” Aschoff said.

    He predicted that the FDA will issue a conditional approval contingent on the results from a current trial. But Dendreon is expected to fail since this trial is more comprehensive and robust, Aschoff said.

    “Dendreon is banking more on the dire need for safer prostate cancer therapies given the large and growing incidence of the disease and less on the merits of its trial’s results,” Aschoff said.

    Wish,
    Brean Murray Carret & Co hebben vorige week onder aanvoering van hun analist Jonathan Aschoff geadviseerd DNDN te shorten, "aangezien Provenge nooit erkend zou worden".
    Daarom heeft Aschoff DNDN nog steeds op sell, terwijl uit de FDA gegevens is gebleken, dat de uitspraken van de beoordelingscommissie afdeling biotech voor 100% gevolgd worden.

    Aschoff is gewoon een boef, die nu voor miljoenen verlies moet coveren en alles inzet om de aandelen zo goedkoop mogelijk in te kopen.

    I wonder how short he and all his buddies are. To make a blanket statement like that after the vote at the FDA meeting is motivated by one thing in my mind. FEAR.
