   MOIL to invest INR 62 crore on 10.5 MW solar power project
   
   State-run MOIL said that its board has approved an investment to the tune of INR 61.83 crore for setting up a solar power project for captive use.
   
   MOIL said that "The Board of Directors of the company at its meeting held on February 10, 2016, has approved investment proposal for setting up 10.50 MW solar power project for captive use in the lease hold areas of company's mines situated in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, with a total estimated cost of Rs 61.83 crore."
   
   The company reported that its standalone net profit for the quarter ended December plunged 87.8 per cent to Rs 13.16 crore due to lower income.
   
   It added that the company's income from operations declined 59.7 per cent to Rs 87.81 crore as against Rs 218.38 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago.

   Adani Group plans to set up large-scale solar project in Australia
   
   After setting up one of the world's largest coal mines in Australia, ports-to-power conglomerate Adani Group is planning to build a large-scale solar project in the country.
   
   Mr Jayant Parimal, Adani Green Energy CEO (Renewable Energy), said that besides, the Group's renewable energy arm, which has a 40 mega-watt (MW) solar power plant, will scale its capacity to 800 MW by March 2016.
   
   Mr Parimal said that "We are looking at Australia to set up a large-scale solar power project. We have applied for a licence and after we get this then we will start planning for the plant."
   
   Mr Parimal is part of the industry delegation, led by industry chamber CII, which is in Australia for the India-Australia Energy Dialogue.
   
   He said that “At present, we are at 40 MW, but by March next year we will scale up to 800 MW as some facilities will start production by then. We have around 1,110 MW of capacity under construction."
   
   Adani Group has set up a target to have a capacity of 10,000 MW of solar power by 2022. Adani Green Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises, has forayed into solar power generation and PV equipment manufacturing business.

   Telangana leads in solar power capacity addition with 279.64 MW,
   
   Telangana urge there's a new wunderkind on the solar block. India's newest added 279.64 MW of solar power capacity in the six and a half months ended mid-January - the highest among Indian states, according to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
   
   Tamil Nadu was a close second with an increase of 270.97 MW, followed by Rajasthan, which added 217.25 MW. While Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan have been renewable energy heavyweights for a while, Telangana is a rank newcomer. Rajasthan is the solar energy leader in India, having pipped Gujarat to that position last year. Tamil Nadu has topped in wind energy production for more than a decade and is only now getting serious about solar.
   
   With 279.64 MW, Telangana leads in solar power capacity additionIn contrast, Telangana had only 62.75 MW of solar capacity in June. India's installed solar capacity increased by 1,246.31MW during this period to 5,129.81 MW. Solar accounts for less than 2% of the country's total installed power capacity and India has set a target of generating 100 GW of solar power by 2021-22.
   
   The great leap raises Telangana's total solar installed capacity to 342.39 MW - the seventh-highest in the country.

   Govt may soon come out with tenders for 2-4 GW solar power - Mr Goyal
   
   Mr Piyush Goyal, Union Minister, said that the government is planning to bring out large tenders for producing 2-4 giga-watts (GW) of solar power.
   
   Mr Goyal said that "We are looking at coming out with 2-4 GW of solar power tenders. This will lead to economies of scale as large players will come as well as large capital."
   
   The country's grid-connected solar power generation capacity has crossed the 5,000 MW mark.
   
   The government has set an ambitious target of generating 100 GW of solar power by 2021-22 under the National Solar Mission. It is envisaged to generate 60 GW ground mounted grid-connected solar power and 40 GW roof-top grid interactive solar power to meet the target.
   
   The Power ministry has also fixed year-wise targets to monitor the solar power generation in the country. The target for the current year is 2,000 MW and 12,000 MW for the next year.
   
   The ministry is putting all efforts through various Central and State governments schemes to achieve the target. It has also initiated several schemes for development of solar parks and ultra mega solar power projects. Tenders for around 18,000 MW of solar projects are expected to be issued by March 31, 2016.
   
   The Power, Coal and Renewable Energy Minister said the tariffs for solar power can come down by another 10 per cent from the record low of INR 4.34 per unit last month.

   Storage battery at 750 MW solar plant likely in Andhra Pradesh
   
   Economic Times reported that India's solar energy programme is taking the next big step by including storage facility in a project being offered. Although the move is seen raising cost, it will set India's ambitious renewable energy programme on a firm footing.
   
   For the first time, solar storage will be part of a tender that staterun Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) will float in the next few days for 750 MW of installed capacity at Ananthapuramu Solar Park in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh.
   
   It is the first hybrid tender of the SECI in which every bidder will have to include a small storage system alongside its solar plant, adding up to a total of 100 MW installed storage capacity.
   
   Ashvini Kumar, managing director of SECI, said that "This tender is probably the first of its kind in the world. It will be a normal tender, but as a technical specification, we will ask for battery storage." Although their costs have come down rapidly, a big drawback of solar and wind energy is their 'infirm' or 'erratic' nature - they can be produced only when the sun shines or the wind blows hard. Hence, storing the power produced is vital if the power is to be made available round the clock. Yet, almost none of the solar plants set up so far include storage.”
   
   This is because storage costs have yet to come down, the way production costs have in recent years. So far, as renewable energy use has grown, the focus in India has mostly been on quick evacuation of the power produced to the grid rather than storing it.
   
   Mr KS Popli, chairman of Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA), said the average storage battery costs about $450 per kwh, which will raise the cost of power.
   
   Mr Popli said that "But at the same time, as renewable capacity increases, the integration process will have to be smoothened and storage will be a necessity. It is expected that in the next few years as the demand for storage rises and the technology improves, prices will fall."
   
   Mechanisms for forecasting how much renewable power will be available each day (and informing the grid in advance) are being put in place.
   
   Mr Kumar of SECI said that "Developers will have to work out how much deviation is there and how much it will be reduced by battery storage. You have to go beyond the present stage of technology. This tender may trigger many more similar ones in future."

   Solar power lights up temples, reduces bills in Tamil Nadu
   
   The Hindu reported that a number of major temples in Tiruchi, Perambalur, and Pudukottai districts have gone in for solar power units which has brought down the power consumption bill to a great extent.
   
   According to officials, the solar units have helped bring down the power bill, though the plan involved an initial investment of Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 9 lakh depending on the capacity of the plants.
   
   Accordingly, the executive officers of Rockfort Sri Thayumanaswamy Temple, Sri Subramanyaswamy Temple in Kumara Vayalur, Sri Vekkali Amman Temple in Woraiyur, Sri Jambukeswarar – Akilandeswari Temple in Tiruvanaikovil and Sri Mathura Kali Amman Temple in Siruvachur near Perambalur volunteered to go in for solar plants.
   
   Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) accords special concession to temples and levies Rs. 7 a unit. Even then, the temples had to shell out a huge sum ranging between Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 30,000 as bi-monthly expenditure towards energy bills.
   
   The temples have been using the green energy during the day while at night, they switch over to the power supply from Tangedco.

   FPL breaks ground on 3 solar power plants in Florida
   
   WTSP reported that Florida Power and Light broke ground on three new solar power plants in Florida, tripling the amount of solar energy used in the state.
   
   The ceremony took place at the future site of the Manatee Solar Energy Center in Parrish. The three plants will use more than 1 million solar panels combined. FPL officials says when stacked end to end there are enough solar panels to stretch from Florida to Chicago.
   
   Mr Eric Silagy, FPL President and CEO, said that “It’s a huge amount of power and it generates electricity without using any water. Of course on a day like today it works beautifully. This is part of an overall portfolio of clean energy that helps us provide affordable reliable power for customers around the clock."
   
   However, the three sites will bring 250 construction jobs to the area. The other solar energy plants are in Desoto and Charlotte counties.

   Vizag Port to run on solar power from next month in AP – Mr Babu
   
   Mr M T Krishna Babu chairman of Vizag port said that Andhra Pradesh is set to run its entire operations on solar power from next month.
   
   Mr Babu said at a roadshow here ahead of Maritime India Summit 2016, to be held in Mumbai in April that Visakhapatnam Port Trust has already commissioned 2 MW solar capacity and will add another 8 MW by March 20.
   
   He said that "We will be the first major port in the country to run entire port operations on solar energy," adding VPT has spent Rs. 60 crore to set up the plants.
   
   Mr Devendra K Rai, Director, Union Ministry of Shipping, said the target is to operationalise 135 MW of solar power projects by 2020 in eight major ports -- JNPT, Paradip, Kamarajar, Kandla, V O Chidambaranar, Visakhapatnam, Kolkata and New Mangalore.
   
   Mr Rai said that 50 MW of wind energy projects are also planned to be developed in V O Chidambaranar, Chennai and New Mangalore ports during the period.
   
   He said that consulting firm McKinsey has submitted a draft National Perspective Plan and made a presentation to Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari yesterday.
   
   He added that "It (the draft NPP) will be put on website for feedback very soon. This particular plan will guide us for the next 10-20 years as to how the maritime sector as a whole can grow."
   
   He further added that "We are developing 78 lighthouses (including 34 island lighthouses) as tourist hubs and cruise terminals at Mormugao, Chennai, Mumbai and Cochin."

   UTRECHT – In 20 Amerikaanse staten is het plaatsen van zonnepanelen goedkoper dan stroom afnemen uit het stopcontact.
   
   Dit meldt onderzoeksbureau GTM Research. De kosten om zonnepanelen te installeren zijn gedaald de laatste tijd, terwijl de stroomprijzen toenemen.
   
   Ook nieuwe regelgeving heeft grote invloed op de aantrekkelijkheid van zonnepanelen.
   
   In staten zoals Californië, Massachusetts en Hawaï kunnen zonnepanelen de energierekening van huishoudens met 20 tot 40 procent verlagen. In onder andere Oklahoma en North Dakota verhogen zonnepanelen juist de energierekening.
   
   Nog eens 42 staten
   
   De verwachting is dat de komende 4 jaar in nog eens 42 staten in de VS zonnepanelen netpariteit bereiken voor huishoudens.
   
   Dat zonnestroom goedkoper is dan stroom uit het net voor huishoudens betekent niet dat zonne-energie de goedkoopste energiebron is. Op de stroomprijs die huishoudens betalen, zitten ook allerlei kosten verwerkt voor energienet plus belastingen. Met zonnepanelen worden die, afhankelijk van regelgeving niet betaald.
   
   In Nederland is het al langer erg rendabel om zonnepanelen te nemen door lage kosten voor zonnepanelen, relatief hoge stroomprijzen en het salderingssysteem, waarmee geleverde zonnestroom wordt verrekend met de verbruikte stroom. Rond 2020 gaat het salderen mogelijk op de schop.

    Utrecht wil meer zonnepanelen op corporatiewoningen
    
    UTRECHT – Het gemeentebestuur van Utrecht gaat onderzoek doen naar het plaatsen van meer zonnepanelen op de huurwoningen van woningcorporaties.
    
    De gemeenteraad heeft hiervoor een motie aangenomen en wethouder Paulus Jansen daartoe opdracht tot gegeven.
    
    Volgens de indieners, gezamenlijk gedaan door D66, SP, PvdA, CDA en GroenLinks, van de motie zijn corporaties graag bereid om hun daken beschikbaar te stellen voor zonnepanelen, maar leggen ze zelf de prioriteit bij het aanbrengen van isolatie en andere besparingsmaatregelen.
    
    Ze zien succesvolle voorbeelden in Nijmegen en Haarlemmermeer. In de gemeente Haarlemmermeer zijn bijvoorbeeld al minstens 8.000 zonnepanelen geplaatst op huurwoningen van corporaties in samenwerking met een derde partij.
    
    Binnen een half jaar wil de raad dat de wethouder met meer informatie.
    
    Utrecht is landelijk al 1 van de voorlopers met zonnepanelen. Zo zouden er volgens gegevens uit augustus ruim 4.000 huishoudens met zonnepanelen zijn.

    Zonnepark produceert 12,5 procent van stroomverbruik Vlieland
    
    UTRECHT – Initiatiefnemers voor een zonnepark op Vlieland hebben goedkeuring gekregen van de gemeente voor het project.
    
    Op een voormalig terrein van Defensie moet het zonnepark komen. De zonneweide krijgt een omvang van 0,8 hectare, ongeveer 2 voetbalvelden, en gaat genoeg stroom produceren voor het jaarverbruik van 250 huishoudens. Dit is ongeveer 12,5 procent van het land.
    
    Vlieland heeft samen met de andere Waddeneilanden de doelstelling om in 2020 energie-onafhankelijk te zijn.
    
    Het zonnepark is hier een belangrijke stap in. Begin maart wordt SDE+subsidie aangevraagd voor het project. De ambitie is om eind 2016, begin 2017 te starten met de bouw van het zonnepark.
    
    In de tussentijd is de ECV (Energie Coöperatie Vlieland) opgericht, heeft Urgenda een energieloket geopend en is de hulp van Lab Vlieland ingeschakeld om de 2020 doelstelling na te jagen.

    ArcelorMittal laat staalfabriek vallen en gaat 500 MW zonnepark bouwen
    
    UTRECHT – Staalconcern ArcelorMittal is van plan om een zonnepark van 500 tot 600 megawatt te bouwen in de Indiase staat Karnataka.
    
    Het concern heeft hiertoe besloten nadat eerdere plannen om een staalfabriek werden geschrapt.
    
    ArcelorMittal, één van de grootste staalproducenten ter wereld, had sinds 2011 een stuk land van ruim 10.000 vierkante gereserveerd voor de staalmolen, maar besloot uiteindelijk de ruimte anders te gebruiken.
    
    Het Indiase bedrijf ziet de markt voor staal inzakken en denkt het land beter te gebruiken om groene stroom op te wekken. De staat Karnataka kampt met een tekort aan elektriciteit en tegelijk wil India fors meer groene energie.

    Friese woningcorporatie gaat zonnepanelen plaatsen op 1.000 woningen
    
    UTRECHT – De Friese woningcorporatie WoonFriesland gaat 1.000 huurwoningen in Leeuwarden van zonnepanelen voorzien.
    
    De corporatie moet hier nog een plan voor ontwikkelen. Daarnaast steekt WoonFriesland 21 miljoen euro beschikbaar voor het energiezuiniger maken en het onderhoud van woningen.
    
    WoonFriesland heeft zo’n 22.000 woningen in de provincie, waarvan er 7.000 woningen staan in Leeuwarden.
    
    Een andere woningstichting, Elkien, gaat komend jaar 15,5 miljoen euro steken in “energetische verbetering” en planmatig onderhoud.

    Intentieovereenkomst voor zonnepark van 20 hectare bij Coevorden
    
    UTRECHT – De gemeente Coevorden, een lokale coöperatie en een groep bedrijven hebben een intentieovereenkomst getekend voor het bouwen van een zonnepark van 20 hectare op een lokaal bedrijventerrein.
    
    De ‘zonneakker’ moet komen langs de N34 op grond die door de gemeenten in de jaren ’90 is aangekocht voor het bouwen van een nieuw bedrijventerrein, maar hier is geen ruimte meer voor.
    
    Na een onderzoek kwam een consortium van lokale bedrijven naar voren om een zonneproject te ontwikkelen.
    
    Voorlopig gaat het nog om een intentie. Zo moeten er nog tekeningen worden gemaakt, verdere vergunningen worden aangevraagd en een beroep worden gedaan op SDE-subsidie. Streven is om onder andere lokale bedrijven en omwonenden te laten investeren in het zonneproject.
    
    De initiatiefnemers verwachten in 2017 mogelijk klaar te zijn met deze ontwikkelingsfase. Verwacht wordt dat er genoeg zonnepanelen op de locatie kunnen worden geplaatst om 10 miljoen kilowattuur groene stroom te produceren, omgerekend het jaarverbruik voor 2.750 tot 3.000 huishoudens.

    Europese zonnepanelenmakers de straat op tegen ‘Chinese dumping’
    
    UTRECHT – Vertegenwoordigers van zonnepaneelproducenten in Europa sluiten zich volgende week maandag aan bij protesten tegen de dumping van Chinese producten.
    
    Zo’n 5.000 man uit 15 lidstaten worden verwacht in Brussel om te protesteren tegen een eventuele status als markteconomie voor China. De Europese Commissie overweegt het Aziatische land die status te geven.
    
    Met een dergelijke status wordt het moeilijker om importheffingen op te leggen op Chinese producten, die door de Chinese regering worden gesubsidieerd.
    
    Op Chinese zonnepanelen zijn nog steeds importheffingen van toepassing. Afgelopen december liepen de eerder opgelegde importbelastingen af, maar de Europese Commissie besloot een nieuw onderzoek in te stellen. Totdat dit onderzoek is afgerond zijn er nog steeds extra heffingen.
    
    Naast de Europese makers van zonnepanelen, zijn er vooral vertegenwoordigers van de Europese staalindustrie. Ook producenten van aluminium, glas en fietsen zijn vertegenwoordigd.

    Nederlandse investeerder neemt 6,3 MW aan Vlaamse zonneparken over
    
    UTRECHT – De Amsterdamse investeringsmaatschappij Sunrock Investments neemt 15 zonneprojecten in Vlaanderen over met een opgeteld vermogen van 6,2 megawatt.
    
    Samen hebben de projecten een waarde van 15 miljoen euro. Sunrock geeft tegenover de Groene Courant aan niet bekend te kunnen maken hoeveel er is betaald voor de projecten.
    
    Voor Sunrock betekent het weer een forse stap naar de doelstelling een portfolio op te bouwen van 100 miljoen euro aan zonneparken.
    
    45 miljoen euro
    
    De investeringsboetiek wil dit bedrag al in dit jaar halen. Nu heeft de investeringsmaatschappij een portfolio van 45 miljoen euro aan projecten in Italië, België en Nederland.
    
    Sunrock investeert in zonneprojecten die al volledig operationeel zijn met een vermogen van 1 tot 15 megawatt in Europa. De investeerder is in Nederland actief als ontwikkelaar bij een reeks grondgebonden zonneparken en grote dakprojecten.

    Eerste 1.300 zonnepanelen geplaatst op dak gemeentehuis Zevenaar
    
    UTRECHT – De eerste 1.300 zonnepanelen zijn geplaatst op het dak van het gemeentehuis van Zevenaar. In totaal worden er 2.600 zonnepanelen geïnstalleerd op het dak.
    
    Dit meldt Hanergy, de fabrikant van de zonnepanelen die gebruikt worden.
    
    Het dak krijgt een totaal vermogen van 600 kilowatt. De eerste 300 kilowatt is nu geplaatst en rond half 2016 wordt de tweede helft dunne film zonnepanelen geïnstalleerd.
    
    De zonnepanelen worden geplaatst op het gebouw waar de publieksbalies van de gemeente zitten.
    
    Postcoderoosregeling
    
    De gemeente maakt gebruik van de postcoderoosregeling. Inwoners van omliggende postcodes van de zonnepaneleninstallatie kunnen investeren in de zonnepanelen en de coöperatie als geheel profiteert van een fiscaal voordeel.
    
    Zo kan het aantrekkelijk zijn voor huishoudens die zelf geen zonnepanelen kunnen nemen, maar wel in zonne-energie willen investeren.
    
    De zonnepanelen gaan jaarlijks zo’n 300.000 kilowattuur groene stroom produceren, gelijk aan het jaarverbruik van zo’n 150 huishoudens.

    Renewable energy sector faces acute manpower shortage in India
    
    One of the biggest challenges for the India's booming renewable energy industry is getting skilled manpower, says a new report that has urged the government to set up training institutes in every likely solar hub.
    
    The survey conducted jointly by the Council for Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) and the Natural Resources Defence Council (NRDC) said that "Unavailability of appropriately skilled manpower has been identified as one of the most prominent challenges in hiring required personnel."
    
    It said the quality of most teaching programmes is poor and does not match industry needs. Many training institutes are also located too far away from where the jobs are for aspirants to take advantage of them.
    
    As a result, most renewable energy companies are forced to conduct in house training programmes.
    
    Overall, the industry employed around 79,000 full time people as of November 2015, but would need 1.3 million by 2022 if the country achieves its ambitious target of 100,000 MW of solar power capacity and 60,000 MW of wind power capacity by then.
    
    Curiously, the shortage is most acute for people with basic skills in constructing and commissioning renewable energy plants, not those with higher technical skills. The largest number of personnel required - around 624,000 people - will be for semiskilled and low skilled technical works in plant construction, the report said.
    
    Mr Arunabha Ghosh, CEO at CEEWsaid that "There is a clear need for improved training and certification programmes, which are accessible to workers of varying backgrounds and skillsets in all states."
    
    The report urged policymakers to consider establishing "at least one prominent solar training institute in each region projected to be a hub for major solar activity".
    
    It said that "The locations of training institutes should be mapped to identify the geographical gaps. For example, renewable energy training clusters could be located near ongoing solar energy projects."

    All sites for solar parks finalised by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy
    
    Economic Times reported that the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has completed the first stage of its ambitious solar parks project, which envisages setting up solar clusters across the country with an overall installed capacity of 20,000 MW by the end of 2018-19.
    
    With two new areas selected this year, the process of identifying the land on which these parks will be located is complete.
    
    The new sites are in the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh and across the districts of Bhiwani, Hisar and Mahendragarh in Haryana, both having an installation capacity of 500 MW.
    
    In all, 34 solar parks across 21states and one union territory are in various stages of being built. There are five in Rajasthan (total capacity 3,251 MW), four in Andhra Pradesh (4,000 MW), four in Madhya Pradesh (2,750 MW), three in Maharashtra (1,500 MW), and one each in Karnataka (2,000 MW), Himachal Pradesh (1,000 MW), Odisha (1,000 MW), Gujarat (700 MW), Uttar Pradesh (600 MW), Tamil Nadu (500 MW), Haryana (500 MW), Chhattisgarh (500 MW), Telangana (500 MW) and West Bengal (500 MW).
    
    The original plan, formulated in 2014-15, aimed at creating 25 solar parks over a five-year period, each with a capacity of 500 MW or more, to reach a total capacity of 20,000 MW. However, to make the projects more inclusive, small and hilly states that find it difficult to provide the vast expanses needed for solar parks of the size suggested — an area of 5-6 acres is needed to set up 1 MW capacity — have been allowed to build smaller ones. These include one solar park each in Arunachal Pradesh (100 MW), Assam (69 MW), Jammu and Kashmir (100 MW), Kerala (200 MW), Uttarakhand (50 MW), Nagaland (60 MW), Meghalaya (20 MW) as well as Andaman and Nicobar (100 MW).
    
    Some of the large projects have been broken up as well. The original 2,000 MW Rewa Solar Park in Madhya Pradesh has been broken up into three - one 1,000 MW park and two of 500 MW each. Similarly, the 1,000 MW Jaisalmer Solar Park in Rajasthan has been slightly expanded and broken up into two parts of 750 MW and 321 MW. "It was done to make transmission easier," said a senior MNRE official.
    
    Apart from these, there are also solar parks being built entirely at the initiative of some state governments. The Charanka Solar Park in Gujarat's Patan district, with an installation capacity of 590 MW of which over 200 MW has already been commissioned, is the pioneer among solar parks and the model on which the MNRE scheme is formulated.

    Belgische ontwikkelaar WDP verdient 8,2 miljoen euro met zonnepanelen
    
    UTRECHT – Het Belgische vastgoedbedrijf WDP heeft in 2015 8,2 miljoen euro verdiend met de exploitatie van zonnepanelen, flink hoger dan een jaar eerder.
    
    In 2014 werd 6,8 miljoen euro verdiend met de zonnepanelen. De hogere opbrengst in 2015 was te danken aan het zonnige weer en een toename van de capaciteit.
    
    WDP, dat genoteerd is aan de Amsterdamse beurs, is een exploitant van vooral grote bedrijfshallen.
    
    De portfolio met zonnepanelen van WDP had eind 2015 een waarde van ongeveer 86 miljoen euro. Zo heeft WDP in Nederland een project om in totaal 30 megawatt aan zonnepanelen te plaatsen op magazijnen.
    
    Op het magazijn van de Wehkamp in Zwolle zijn dit jaar voor 2,5 megawatt aan zonnepanelen geplaatst. Hiervoor nam WDP een lening af van 3 miljoen euro van het Energiefonds Overijssel. In Wallonië plaatste WDP vorig jaar zo’n 1,9 megawatt aan zonnepanelen op een reeks magazijnen.
