    BANGALORE, Nov 15 (Reuters) - Corn-based fuel maker Pacific Ethanol Inc. (PEIX.O: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Wednesday it will report quarterly profit for the first time ever, fuelled by record volumes.

    The California-based company said it would delay filing its third-quarter report until Nov. 20 as it needs more time to complete financial disclosures.

    Pacific Ethanol, primarily an ethanol distributor and marketer, said it achieved record revenue and gallon volumes during the quarter, driving it to expected profitability.

    The company started its first production facility, with a capacity of 35 million gallons a year, at the end of the quarter ended Sept. 30.

    Pacific Ethanol will continue to benefit from the strong ethanol market, Ardour Capital Investments analyst Mark Manley said on the telephone. Manley cited expected capacity addition for his "accumulate" rating on the stock.

    Raymond James, which recently started coverage of the company on "outperform," expects ethanol market in California to grow at an even faster rate than the U.S. as a whole.

    The company aims to increase its production capacity to about 420 million gallons per year by the end of 2010.

    Pacific Ethanol Reports First Quarterly Profit on Higher Ethanol Prices and Volumes

    FRESNO, Calif. (AP) -- Pacific Ethanol Inc. said Monday it swung to its first quarterly profit, as it sold more ethanol at higher prices during the third quarter.
    Shares jumped $1.14, or 6.5 percent, to $18.63 in aftermarket trading after closing down 37 cents, or 2.1 percent, at $17.49 on the Nasdaq. The stock has traded between $8.95 and $44.50 over the past year.

    The company reported quarterly net income available to common shareholders of $2.7 million, or 7 cents per share, compared with a prior-year loss of $922,584, or 3 cents per share. The results topped Wall Street's expectations of a quarterly loss of 3 cents per share, according to an analyst poll by Thomson Financial.

    Revenue during the quarter jumped to $61.1 million from $26.4 million in the prior-year period, also beating analysts' projections of $54.2 million.

    Pacific Ethanol said it benefited from increased sales of ethanol, with volumes up 6.9 million gallons to 23.1 million gallons in the current-year period. It also sold the ethanol at higher prices, up 81 cents to $2.45 per gallon from year-ago levels.

    "We were able to capitalize on the volatility of prices during the third quarter and achieved gross margins well above what we typically achieve from our marketing operations," Chief Executive Neil Koehler said in a statement.

    NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of ethanol companies closed higher Wednesday, as higher oil prices indicated demand for alternative energy sources is likely to remain strong.
    According to data released today by the Department of Energy, supplies of crude, gasoline and heating oil are dwindling. In response, light sweet crude for January delivery rose $1.47 to settle at $62.46 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, which in turn boosted shares of corn and ethanol producers.

    Shares of Andersons Inc. added $2.01, or 5.1 percent, to close at $41.40 on the Nasdaq, while Pacific Ethanol Inc. added 95 cents, or 5.4 percent, to finish at $18.70.

    MGP Ingredients Inc. gained 42 cents, or 2 percent, to close at $22.15 on the Nasdaq, while Aventine Renewable Energy Holdings Inc. added $1.48, or 6.1 percent, to end at $25.58 on the Big Board. Archer-Daniels-Midland Co. rose $1.77, or 5.4 percent, to finish at $34.47, while Verasun Energy Corp. climbed $1.22, or 5 percent, to close at $25.88, also on the NYSE.

    Pacific ethanol heeft indrukwekkende eerste kwartaalcijfers laten zien inclusief enorme groei.
    Ze maakten winst, ondanks de veel hogere maisprijzen van het afgelopen seizoen.
    Nu de prijs van mais weer flink aan het zakken is zal 2007 een uitstekend jaar worden voor pacific.
    De koers lijkt uitgebodemd na een eerdere rally en noteerd een year low.
    KW en MC zijn in redelijke verhoudingen.
    Kortom....Ik heb een positie genomen.

    Mais is de grondstof voor ethanolproductie, deze producenten zullen enorm profiteren van lagere maisprijzen.
    PEIX al flink in de plus sinds 27 juni....het is zeker nog niet te laat om in te stappen, dit is pas het begin.

    We zitten al op een winst van 20% sinds de laatste posting van vorige week.
    Mais zakt nog flink en ook helpt de hogere olieprijs mee aan de stijging van PEIX.
    Het produceren van ethanol uit biomass van de tweede generatie (cellulose ethanol) is bij Pacific volop in ontwikkeling.
    We kunnen zo door richting de 20 dollar binnen enkele weken.

    Peix is nou niet echt mijn goudhaantje geweest tot nu toe dit jaar. -43% en dat is inclusief de 8% stijging vanavond..

    Kort ritje gehad, met winst kunnen afsluiten, zit nu in de watchlist.

    Het is nu wachten op lagere maisprijzen die er m.i. zeker zullen komen.....of de huidige schimmelziekte gooid roet in het eten?

    Fundamenteel gaat het goed met Pacific, brengen ook mooie cijfers.

    Kwartaal drie in het rood afgesloten......omzet flink gestegen.
    PEIX wordt nu wel héél aantrekkelijk op $ 6.50.

    Ethanolprijs is de laatste weken met 30 cent gestegen.
    Mais blijft relatief duur.

    PEIX blijft maar zakken...een drama voor longs voorlopig.
    Nu al te koop voor onder $6.00.
    Als PEIX uitgebodemd is kan het een echt koopje worden.
    Geduld wordt vast beloond!

    $ 4,43 nu. (in Eur dus net 3,-) . Bijkopen lijkt verleidelijk, maar het is geen succesvolle strategie meestal...

    EPA Raising Ethanol Standard to Nearly 4.7 Percent for 2008 to Meet Federal Mandate

    WASHINGTON (AP) -- Environmental regulators on Tuesday set a new renewable fuels standard of nearly 4.7 percent for next year to meet a federal mandate that at least 5.4 billion gallons of ethanol be blended into transportation gasoline in 2008.

    The standard for 2007 was slightly more than 4 percent, which amounted to roughly 4.7 billion gallons, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. The volume target increases every year until reaching 7.5 billion gallons in 2012.

    The 2005 Energy Policy Act requires EPA by Nov. 30 to annually determine the standard, which applies to refiners, importers and blenders of gasoline.

    Agribusiness conglomerate Archer-Daniels-Midland Co., the country's largest ethanol producer, has annual capacity of 1.1 billion gallons and expansion plans to raise that to 1.6 billion gallons by 2009. Other ethanol producers include: VeraSun Energy Corp., Aventine Renewable Energy Holdings Inc., US BioEnergy Corp., Andersons Inc., Pacific Ethanol Inc. and MGP Ingredients Inc.
