   AMSTERDAM (Dow Jones)--Staalconcern ArcelorMittal is bereid af te zien van een toekomstige lening in ruil voor soepelere bankconvenanten, zo stelt een persoon bekend met de situatie woensdag.
   
   Het staalbedrijf wil de convenanten gerelateerd aan de huidige kredietfaciliteiten aanpassen. Op dit moment mag de nettoschuld niet meer dan 3,5 keer de winst voor rente, belasting, afschrijving en amortisatie (EBITDA) zijn. ArcelorMittal zou graag zien dat dat wordt opgerekt tot 4,0 keer de EBITDA.
   
   Als concessie voor het tijdelijk oprekken van de convenanten, een zogenaamde waiver, zou de grootste staalproducent ter wereld bereid zijn af te zien van een toekomstige faciliteit die het eerder overeenkwam. Het gaat hierbij om een tweeledige lening van $3,25 miljard die het bedrijf krijgt wanneer een faciliteit van $4 miljard afloopt, zo meldde de bron.
   
   Het bedrijf zei eerder op de dag vertrouwen te hebben in een snelle en positieve uitkomst van de gesprekken. Het gaat volgens ArcelorMittal om een versoepeling voor e e n jaar.
   
   Volgens de bronnen begeleiden HSBC Holdings en Calyon het proces rondom het oprekken van de convenanten.

   AMSTERDAM (Dow Jones)-- ArcelorMittal wil mogelijk de Ansherskaya mijn in Rusland verkopen vanwege de ongunstige economische situatie. Dat meldt de grootste staalfabrikant ter wereld vrijdag.
   
   Het bedrijf kocht de Russische mijn in 2007, maar heeft besloten dat het beter voor de toekomst van de mijn is om naar alternatieve manieren te zoeken om de mijn te ontwikkelen en exploiteren.
   
   Dientengevolgen is het bedrijf in gesprek met de lokale overheid over de toekomst van de mijn.
   
   ArcelorMittal zegt wel door te gaan met de uitbating en ontwikkeling van de twee andere Kuzbass mijnen die het in bezit heeft.
   
   Het concern betaalde het Russische staalconcern OAO Severstal $718 miljoen voor de Anzherskoye, Berezovskoye en Pervomaiskoye mijnen in 2008.

   MOSCOW/YEKATERINBURG, July 10 (Reuters) - Russia's Kemerovo region has told ArcelorMittal, the world's largest steel maker, to boost production at two local coalmines or give them up.
   
   "If your team is not able to stabilise production at these facilities, then we propose that you hand them over without compensation," Kemerovo governor Aman Tuleyev said in a telegram addressed to the multinational's chief executive, Lakshmi Mittal, and cited in a statement on the Kemerovo website.
   
   ArcelorMittal (MT.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) (ISPA.AS: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) acquired three Siberian coal mines from Russia's Severstal (CHMF.MM: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) in 2008, becoming one of the few foreign companies to enter the market.    The company said in comments emailed to Reuters it was in talks with local officials over the possible sale of the Anzherskaya mine, which is predominantly a producer of steam coal, not the coking coal used in steel production.
   
   "Under the current adverse economic situation, ArcelorMittal has decided that the best future for this mine would be to pursue alternative solutions to develop it, including selling it to interested strategic buyers," the company said.
   
   "We are in discussions with the local government to find the most optimal solution. We will continue to develop and operate the other two mines based on the demand for coking coal in the group."
   
   The second asset mentioned in Tuleyev's telegram was the Pervomayskaya mine.
   
   Russian coking coal producers have cut back output sharply in response to weak demand from the crisis-hit steel sector. ArcelorMittal is running at about half capacity due to the downturn, which has hit key customers such as automakers and construction firms.
   
   In March, ArcelorMittal said it might temporarily close the Anzherskaya and Pervomayskaya mines if a cost-cutting programme did not have a satisfactory effect.
   
   It also introduced a voluntary retirement programme at the two facilities. [ID:nLJ417076]
   
   The Kremlin is pressuring regional authorities to maintain stability after Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in June travelled to Pikalyovo, around 270 km (170 miles) from St Petersburg, and forced billionaire Oleg Deripaska to restart operations at several of his factories following protests from unpaid workers.    "I, as governor, am stating in a responsible manner that I will not allow the closure of our mines," Tuleyev wrote in the telegram.
   
   "It seems to me that, today, the mines have sufficient supplies of coal and a market can be found for them, and most importantly, experienced labour collectives are working here."
   
   The governor added in the telegram that if the chief executive did not reply, Keremovo would seek to revoke its licences.
   
   ArcelorMittal also faces the threat of labour unrest in Kazakhstan, where a group of miners refused to leave a coal mine at the end of their shift on Friday. [ID:nLA532545]

    Met een productie op 50% van de totale capaciteit is het niet meer logisch dat Mittal de grondstoffenproductie daarop probeert af te stemmen en kosten te beperken.

Dat is te kort om te bepalen wanneer we dit project gaan doen'', aldus directeur Vincent Le Gouic van de Annabe staalfabriek van ArcelorMittal in Algerije woensdag. Het project werd vorig jaar september aangekondigd. Met de bouw van de nieuwe fabriek is een bedrag gemoeid van 1,5 miljard dollar. Daarvoor zouden een staalfabriek en een energiecentrale werden gebouwd.
    
    Daarnaast vroeg de Algerijnse overheid ArcelorMittal voorbereidend onderzoek te doen naar de haalbaarheid van exploitatie van ijzererts in het zuidwesten van Algerije. Naar verwachting zit daar meer dan 3 miljard ton aan ijzererts in de grond.

    Staalproductie ArcelorMittal Oekraine omhoog in juli

    AMSTERDAM (Dow Jones)--Staalconcern ArcelorMittal breidt zijn staalproductie in de Oekraine in juli uit naar 410.000-430.000 ton, van 400.000 ton in juni. Dat meldt het bedrijf donderdag.
    
    Oekraine's grootste staalproducent ArcelorMittal Steel Krivoj Rog werkt momenteel slechts op een capaciteit van 57,3%. Het staalbedrijf speelt bij een productie boven de 350.000 ton per maand break-even. Vanaf een productie van 500.000 ton per maand wordt winst gemaakt.
    
    De vraag naar staal neemt in juli toe door een toegenomen vraag in het Midden-Oosten en Afrika. De afgelopen 30 dagen steeg de prijs van staal met 10% tot 15%.

    BRUSSELS, July 17 (Reuters) - ArcelorMittal (ISPA.AS), the world's largest steelmaker, said on Friday its lenders had agreed to relax covenants on more than $32 billion of credit lines.
    
    The firm said its request to amend covenants had been approved on a 17 billion euro ($23.96 billion) credit facility, plus a further $4 billion of revolving credits and a 3.25 billion euro forward start facility.
    
    ArcelorMittal said the process did not increase the borrowing costs under these facilities unless net debt rose to more than 3.5 times Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortisation (EBITDA).
    
    While a number of lenders continued to work on the request, the consent threshold for each facility had been comfortably achieved, the group said.
    
    Further details would be made available when the company announces second quarter earnings on July 29.
    
    Calyon and HSBC are co-ordinators for the amendment process, ArcelorMittal said.
