   Tja Garmin en TomTom zijn toch de grootste Naviproducenten in de wereld en de sterkste met hun handelsmerk, mss TomTom nog beter dan Garmin betreffende in de autonavi!!!, dus kom maar op met de biedingen!!

   Jongens, laat je nou niet gek maken, er wordt duidelijk aangegeven dat WB bedrijven zoekt met een marketcap >4-5 miljard USD. Dat is TT nog lang niet. Of Garmin moet eerst TT overnemen en vervolgens worden zij overgenomen door Berkshire!

   Voor de duidelijkheid, ze zeggen niet dat Buffet heeft aangegeven dat het naar Garmin kijkt he! Ze geven aan dat Garmin qua bedrijf (vooral cijfermatig) past als overname kandidaat.
   Het zegt eigenlijk helemaal niets, behalve dat het leuk is om te horen dat er iemand met een grote zak geld op zoek is naar een mooi bedrijf.

   Die zogenaamde lijst is inderdaad pure speculatie van CNBC op basis van fundamentele karakteristieken, hoog dividend, lage debt/equity ratio, etc.
   
   Dus daar heeft Buffett zelf nog niets over losgelaten...
   
   En Buffett houdt niet van Tech-aandelen.

   tijd dat de navigatie markt in beweging komt...
   
   de concurentie met de kastjes is te groot...men moet gaan overnemen om te groeien...de kastjes van tom tom zijn favoriet.

    Ik denk dat door de krimpende markt voor PND's en de toenemende concurrentie door Google en de smartphone concurrentie technisch er niks Garmin in de weg staat om TT over te nemen..

    Puur vanuit 'schapruimte' geredeneerd (dus van buiten naar binnen denken), en dan alleen vanuit PND perspectief, denk ik dat je gelijk hebt. Als ik bij een retailer een PND zou moeten kopen, dan wil ik niet hoeven kiezen uit zoveel modellen als nu.
    
    De TomTom 'Easy' vervult nog wel een goede niche, voor mensen die bang zijn voor techniek / denken dat ze die niet kunnen begrijpen. Voor de rest 1 of 2 live modellen en verder basta.
    
    Of die sanering door overnames moet gebeuren of gewoon door zelf te saneren in het aantal modellen laat ik even in het midden. Naast overnames kun je ook denken aan fusies of allianties.
    
    Het aantal opties is dus legio. Ook als TT daar niet bij betrokken is, zullen andere fusies of allianties ook hun weerslag hebben op TomTom. En niet per se negatief. Dit is zoals ik zei echter puur vanuit PND markt geredeneerd. Als je het hebt over kaarten dan ziet het landschap er weer anders uit. En voor automotive ook.
    
    Ik vraag me trouwens af of Garmin TT wel kan overnemen. Als je puur kijkt naar marketcap is Garmin wellicht groter dan TomTom. Heb je het echter over merkbekendheid buiten de VS, dan is TT groter. Ook qua aantallen patenten en natuurlijk het bezit van eigen kaarten loopt TT voor. TomTom zou over een paar jaar zomaar eens groter kunnen zijn. Een vergaande samenwerking is dus ook een optie.

    Renault NavTruck App Powered by ALK
    
    Navigation software provider ALK Technologies recently announced to power more than 125,000 business navigation solutions with their software development kit. This activity saw a new deployment last week with the debut on the iTunes store of Renault NavTruck, an iPhone application that provides truck-specific routes, guidance and maps throughout Europe.
    
    Renault NavTruck includes NAVTEQ street maps enhanced with NAVTEQ Transport commercial vehicle attributes. It contains the location of thousands of low bridges, narrow roads, truck hazards and truck-restricted roads. Thousands of Points Of Interest for professional drivers are also preloaded, including Renault Truck service locations.
    
    This niche application is however not in the range of price we are used to see in iTunes with a price tag of €149.99, three time the price of the ALK consumer application with European NAVTEQ maps. There is however a demand for it as it just appeared in the top ten grossing navigation apps in France.

    Harman Provides Docking Nav for Mercedes SLK & C-Class
    
    Today at the Geneva Motor Show Harman has unveiled a new docking navigation solution called Becker MAP PILOT that is premiering in the new Mercedes-Benz SLK and in the new generation of C-Class.
    
    The device can be removed like a PND to be upgraded, thus it is completely integrated in the car cockpit; i.e. not visible from outside the car and feeling like a built-in navigation system when in use.
    
    The navigation system is operated by controls positioned on the steering wheel, the turn/push control, and integrated voice commands.
    
    The system will also be available in other Mercedes-Benz models in the future, said Harman.

    Dus het is eigenlijk geen nieuws, behalve dat Navteq een bestaand contract met Volkswagen heeft verlengd? Dan kan Volkswagen wel van het lijstje met potentiele TomTom deals. Wat op zich wel errug jammer is natuurlijk. Uiteindelijk zijn er maar twee echte kaartenmakers: Navteq en TomTom (voormalig TeleAtlas).
    
    Dat ding van Harman (Becker map pilot) in de Mercedes had ik al gezien en over gemaild. Zit dus niks van TomTom in. Ook jammer.
    
    Maar zoals Goddijn zei bij de jaarcijfers: binnenkort zullen wij meer deals kenbaar maken. Zoals we zien zit de concurrentie ook niet stil en aast iedereen op dit moment op de inbouw industrie. Gelukkig heeft TomTom een flinke trackrecord op dat gebied.
