    Plug Power's Quarter Proved Why Investors Should Remain Apprehensive

    If there was any doubt that Ballard Power Systems (NASDAQ: BLDP ) was a better bet on the fuel cell market than Plug Power (NASDAQ: PLUG ) , this quarter helped put that arguemnt to bed. Sure, both companies struggled to grow sales, but the one thing that Ballard has been able to do is something that continues to elude Plug Power: the ability to generate a gross profit on the sales of its product. This past quarter, Plug Power's gross margins slipped all the way to a negative 42%.

    This probably has investors in the company scratching their heads, and by the reaction on Wall Street, there aren't too many who were impressed with Plug Power's results, either.     Volgens mij werd dat bericht hierboven gevolgd door een copy/paste bericht dat de Street Plug waardeert als een Sell.
    Echte hoogstandjes daar. Misschien moet je aandelen Street kopen.

    Ik vind de berichten dat Toyota Fuel Cells gaat omarmen veel interessanter.
    Hoe meer bedrijven dat voorbeeld gaan volgen hoe beter het is.

    Opgepast, op komende AVA wordt uitbreiding authorized shares met nog eens 205 miljoen voorgesteld. Dat is geen verwatering maar wel een voorschot daarop. Plug is berucht om haar gewoonte aandelen uit te geven he, dat weten we inmiddels allemaal wel.

    Op korte termijn blijft het een gok he?
    Ik zat ook al geregeld in Ballard en/of Plug, maar timede net verkeerd
    Op langere termijn geloof ik wel in waterstofenergie
    De bedreiging is wel die uitvinding in Japan wat ik kort geleden las. katoen als basis?
    maar ik geloof ook wel in Capstone. Ook een mooi project.

    Ik zie een uptrend in Plug, iets bijgekocht, maar nog ver verwijderd van de 37500 die ik ooit had...

    New SUV from Hyundai stokes the hydrogen debate

    Hyundai (HYMLF) will deliver its first hydrogen fuel cell-powered SUV in California next week.

    The launch comes despite the limited hydrogen refueling infrastructure in the state.

    Outside of the automobile industry, companies including FedEx (cargo tractors) and AT&T (server farms) have been dabbling with using hydrogen despite the lack of a national pipeline. Critics says demand could reach a tipping point.

    What to watch: If Hyundai's launch of a SUV hydrogen goes over better than expected it could be a positive for FuelCell Energy (FCEL), Ballard Power (BLDP) and Plug Power (PLUG). It also adds another layer to the engaging Toyota (TM) vs. Tesla Motors (TSLA) debate.

    PLUG has been diluting its stock mightily for several years as it has been desperate to raise cash:

    Predictions

    To predict 2014 revenue, I will use management's guidance and adjust it according to the kind of disappointment we have seen in the past.

    Management has guided revenue figures of $75 million for 2014 and $135 million for 2015. For my valuation, I will lower those numbers by 35% (approximately the amount of previous misses), which equates to assumptions of $48.75 million in 2014 and $87.75 million in 2015.

    PLUG has needed to issue new shares at a high rate in order to fund losses and it is likely that it will need to do so again. For the end of 2015, I will assume 150 million shares.

    For the purpose of this valuation, I will assume profits. Personally, I would not bet on this actually happening by 2015, but for the sake of the analysis, it makes sense to do so. I want to show what the valuation of the stock should be, even with an excellent future forecast.

    I will assume a profit margin of 6% for 2015. That's net profit, not gross. I am giving PLUG every benefit of the doubt here.

    I will assign the stock a P/E of 50 at the end of 2015. If it truly is growing as fast as predicted, then the stock will probably command a P/E around 50.

    Going through the above assumptions will give us a per share target price:

    PLUG will earn $5.265 million in 2015 (.06 margin x $87.75 million revenue).
    Assigning a P/E of 50 to the stock gives a market cap of $263.25 million ($5.265 million x 50).
    Finally, we calculate a share price of $1.76 ($263.25 million divided by 150 million shares).

    Conclusion

    I have been rather optimistic in my valuation of the stock, and my price target still comes out 60% lower than the current price of $4.35.

    The future for the stock is quite likely worse than what I have outlined. PLUG operates in an industry that it monopolizes and that is bolstered by government subsidies and incentives (some of which are due to expire at the end of 2016), and the company is still losing money hand over fist. Consider the dilution of the stock combined with negative gross margins. Money comes into the company and flows out like water down a sewer grate, forcing PLUG to dilute the shares further.[

    PLUG is volkomen ten onrechte in een hype terechtgekomen en wordt nu weer hardhandig op z'n plaats gezet.
    PLUG heeft gewoon helemaal niks gepresteerd om zo duur te mogen zijn.

    Zodra meer mensen dat door krijgen keert de koers weer terug naar waar hij vandaan kwam.

    Je hebt geen kritiek. Je roept maar wat. En over elk aandeel hetzelfde: fantasie, hype, nooit winst, kansloos...

    Je weet toch wel dat je dit soort algemeenheden zou moeten onderbouwen om serieus genomen te worden?

    Ik ben nog nergens slechter van geworden. Ik koop Solazyme al sinds het op 7 nogwat stond.
