   Dec 4 (Reuters) - Ukraine's military said on Monday it attacked oil depots in the Russia-controlled Ukrainian city of Luhansk a day earlier.
   
   Its forces carried out a "successful strike", the Strategic Communications Department of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said on Telegram, without going into further detail.
   
   Earlier on Monday, Russian state news agency RIA Novosti said Ukrainian troops attacked an oil depot there with combat drones.
   
   That report, which cited Russian-installed authorities, said a fire broke out after the attack but was extinguished.

   Gouverneur bevestigt dood Russische generaal aan Oekraïens front
   
   Een gouverneur van een aan Oekraïne grenzende Russische provincie, Voronez, heeft de dood bevestigd van generaal-majoor Vladimir Zavadsky. Hij is gesneuveld tijdens de 'speciale militaire operatie' volgens de gouverneur. Met de speciale operatie bedoelen Russen de aanval op Oekraïne die in februari 2022 is begonnen en waar Zavadsky sinds die tijd aan heeft deelgenomen.
   
   De dood van de hoge officier werd al sinds 28 november gemeld, zowel in het noordoosten als het zuiden van Oekraïne. Er waren onder meer geruchten dat hij op een Russische landmijn zou zijn gereden. Het ministerie van Defensie heeft zich in stilzwijgen gehuld over het lot van Zavadsky.
   
   Volgens cijfers die het Britse ministerie van Defensie over de strijd in Oekraïne verspreidt, zijn er sinds de inval begin 2022 naar schatting 50.000 Russische militairen en 20.000 huurlingen van de firma Wagner omgekomen in de oorlog. Er zouden, gewonden meegerekend, naar schatting 320.000 militairen, militieleden en huurlingen aan Russische zijde zijn uitgeschakeld sinds februari 2022. Afgelopen week zei de Russische defensieminister Sergej Sjojgoe dat sinds het Oekraïense tegenoffensief in juni van start ging, 125.000 strijders aan Oekraïense zijde zijn gedood. De strijdende partijen houden verliezen doorgaans voor zich.

   Alone and wounded, Serhii, whose call sign is "Fin," had Russian troops closing around him. Surrounded and ready to die, he called in artillery strikes on his position, successfully deterring advancing Russian forces.
   
   Serhii repeated the coordinates whenever the enemy closed in, creating a temporary shield thanks to accurate artillery fire.
   
   "I was surrounded by enemies. I whispered the coordinates again on the radio and our artillery fired at them," he told CNN.
   
   A solider with the 80th Air Assault Galician Brigade, Serhii, 36, had returned to Ukraine from a decadelong life in Finland, enlisting soon after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. His call sign nods to his past life as a handyman in Finland.
   Wounded in both legs
   
   On October 27, Serhii and his unit were dispatched on a mission on the eastern front line near Bakhmut, the scene of some of the most bloody fighting of the Russia-Ukraine war.
   
   Serhii, and his comrades, only expected to be in the field for three days. However, they found themselves pinned down by relentless enemy fire for what would become a harrowing two weeks.
   
   The situation became dire when a mortar explosion near Fin's dugout left him wounded in both legs, alongside two other soldiers with broken limbs.
   
   Serhii insisted that an evacuation team prioritize his comrades first, pledging to wait for the next opportunity.
   
   Subsequent attempts to reach him were thwarted by constant Russian bombardment, leading to a further agonizing two-week ordeal of waiting for multiple evacuation teams that never came, repeatedly forced to abort their rescue missions.
   
   lone in his trench, Serhii utilized a drone provided by his commander to receive essentials such as water, painkillers, chocolate bars, and even cigarettes as Russian units came ever closer to his bolt-hole.
   
   A Russian soldier even once entered Serhii's dugout, seemingly oblivious to his Ukrainian identity. Miraculously, the soldier left without harming Serhii, who then received a directive from his commander to crawl through enemy territory and reach safety. Navigating tripwires and grenade threats, Serhii successfully made it to Ukrainian positions.
   
   He is now recovering from his shrapnel wounds in a Ukrainian hospital.
   
   "I can't believe that now I'm in the hospital, not in the trench. I did not think I would survive," he told CNN.
   
   The monthslong battle for Bakhmut, in eastern Ukraine, was the longest and bloodiest of the war and in recent weeks has seen a renewal of Russian offensive operations in the sector.
   
   Russia has recently dispatched fresh, well-trained troops to Bakhmut, Senior Lieutenant Oleksiy Tarasenko, a deputy commander in Ukraine's 5th Separate Assault Brigade, told Radio Svoboda last week, per The New Voice of Ukraine.
   
   "At the moment, the enemy is attempting to identify the most vulnerable spots in our defense. For two or three weeks now, they have been intensively attacking our units in many sectors," he said.

    Ukrainian forces are actively taking advantage of the problems inside the Russian
    army. The biggest problem for Russians is that the conflict between their soldiers and commanders started to grow, and since a group of Russian soldiers refused to follow the order to attack Ukrainian positions on the islands, the revolt has spread to other detachments that are operating along the river bank.
    
    At the moment, the most intense clashes are taking place in the forest. Russian sources reported that Ukrainians firmly entrenched their positions, which is why their efforts to dislodge Ukrainian forces from the eastern bank of the river have been unsuccessful. Russian aviation and artillery units continue heavily striking the area, but, nonetheless, Russian drone footage confirms that Ukrainian marines are conducting offensive operations
    southwest of Krynky.
    
    A Russian fighter that is operating in the forest reported that the fighting is very heavy, and that a friendly airborne unit tried to assault Ukrainian positions just before them but failed and only 7 out of 30 soldiers survived. He noted that Ukrainians are heavily relying on artillery and reconnaissance drone operators and admitted that the coordination between them is on a very high level. He also noted that the fire support from the Russian side is minimal and said that the airstrikes are conducted blindly because his drone operators do not even have the means to communicate reconnaissance. He was discouraged by the heavy losses incurred by his own friendly units and said that they would rather try their luck to entrench and hold defense instead of attacking Ukrainian positions as ordered.
    
    Another problem faced by the Russian assault units became their own mines. As it turned out, the minefields were prepared by completely different detachments that were redeployed to other regions long ago. Due to the fact that Russian commanders have not properly coordinated with assault units about the locations of these minefields, a lot of Russians died on Russian mines. This served as a precedent for the Russian soldiers from the 810th Naval Infantry Brigade to join the group of soldiers that refused to fight, as reported last time. They said that only their detachment lost more than half a hundred men by exploding on Russian minefields.
    
    In fact, the problem is so bad that even a Russian general reportedly died on a mine. At first, it was said that he died near Krynky from machine gun fire, but later it was confirmed
    that it was actually a mine that killed him.
    
    Russian soldiers from the 1822nd Battalion also complained about the situation and said that they were continuously ordered to capture islands in the Dnipro River Delta despite suffering heavy losses and being allowed minimal casualty evacuations. As a result, all the abovementioned soldiers refused to conduct assaults on Ukrainian positions due to a lack of artillery coordination, tactical intelligence transmission, and proper communication about the location of Russian minefields.

Russian soldiers reported that if they heard a drone above them, then they could expect to receive a cluster shell within a minute. The analysts concluded that the Russian electronic warfare systems in the region were effectively suppressed, and Ukrainians are enjoying complete freedom in the air. Such a setting leaves Russians in the Kherson region in a very bad situation.

    The UK’s most hazardous nuclear site, Sellafield, has been hacked into by cyber groups closely linked to Russia and China, the Guardian can reveal.
    
    The astonishing disclosure and its potential effects have been consistently covered up by senior staff at the vast nuclear waste and decommissioning site, the investigation has found.
    
    The Guardian has discovered that the authorities do not know exactly when the IT systems were first compromised. But sources said breaches were first detected as far back as 2015, when experts realised sleeper malware – software that can lurk and be used to spy or attack systems – had been embedded in Sellafield’s computer networks.
    
    It is still not known if the malware has been eradicated. It may mean some of Sellafield’s most sensitive activities, such as moving radioactive waste, monitoring for leaks of dangerous material and checking for fires, have been compromised.
    
    Sources suggest it is likely foreign hackers have accessed the highest echelons of confidential material at the site, which sprawls across 6 sq km (2 sq miles) on the Cumbrian coast and is one of the most hazardous in the world.
    
    The full extent of any data loss and any ongoing risks to systems was made harder to quantify by Sellafield’s failure to alert nuclear regulators for several years, sources said.
    
    The revelations have emerged in Nuclear Leaks, a year-long Guardian investigation into cyber hacking, radioactive contamination and toxic workplace culture at Sellafield.
    
    The site has the largest store of plutonium on the planet and is a sprawling rubbish dump for nuclear waste from weapons programmes and decades of atomic power generation.

    Met de winter voor de deur lijkt Oekraïne nog nauwelijks winst te boeken in de oorlog met Rusland. Zelfs NAVO-chef Jens Stoltenberg liet dit weekend weten dat we rekening moeten houden met slecht nieuws uit Oekraïne.     YouTube video's van complotwappies met een verdienmodel posten, met de aanbeveling zo'n urendurend gezwets te gaan bekijken... dat verdient een reactie.
