Dit berichtje in de dagelijkse nieuwsbrief van Bloomberg lijkt me de echte reden waarom de chipsector het vandaag wat lastig heeft :
Chips rout
The $160 billion memory-chip industry is suffering one of its worst routs ever. There’s a glut of the chips sitting in warehouses, customers are cutting orders, and product prices have plunged. In addition to wiping out cash at industry leaders like SK Hynix and Micron Technology, it is also destabilizing suppliers and denting Asian economies that rely on tech exports. Micron, the last remaining US memory chipmaker, has responded aggressively to plummeting demand, saying it will cut budget for new plants and equipment, in addition to reducing output. The rate of the industry’s recovery will depend on how quickly its counterparts make similar moves, Chief Executive Officer Sanjay Mehrotra said.
FWIW.
