   Clean fuel pioneer LanzaTech is attracting interest from some very smart investors, but it's still early days
   Promising science and technology companies are in and out of fashion so fast it is hard keep up with them all.
   It doesn't help that most of them have names that make them sound like sci-fi villains or Austrian techno DJs.
   The science can also be confusing. Even once you've grasped the multisyllabic name, explaining to someone else what they actually do takes some effort.
   The hottest company on the scene right now is LanzaTech, and what they do is pretty amazing.
   The company has patented technology that can turn the carbon-filled smog generated by steel mills and other big industrial factories into clean biofuel.
   Pretty smart stuff and very appealing: let's save the world and make some money while we do it.
   Founded in New Zealand in 2005, LanzaTech first turned up on the Business Herald's radar in 2006 in a piece examining the private investments of Warehouse founder Stephen Tindall.
   Since making his fortune Tindall has been one of this country's great angel investors. His portfolio is full of sci-fi villains and Austrian techno DJs.
   Most of them are based on technology that has the potential to change the world for good.
   The trouble with technology companies is that even if the considerable odds of proving that the science works can be overcome, there is still no guarantee the product will be a commercial success.
   Turning good technology into profits is a long and treacherous journey.
   History is littered with examples of inventors who should have made a fortune with technology only for someone else to see the money.
   Thomas Edison is famed for inventing the lightbulb but he didn't. He improved it, patented the improved version, fought off lawsuits from rivals who believed he stole their ideas and commercialised the result.
   Few remember Sir Humphry Davy, who made the first electric incandescent bulb in 1802, or Frederick de Moleyns, who first patented a lightbulb in 1841.
   So it is early days to be calling LanzaTech a business success story - for investors at least.
   Initially its investors have been the kind of high net worth individuals, like Tindall, who understand this.
   This week LanzaTech announced it had raised US$55.8 million in new capital from a combination of leading Malaysian state and private funders, along with existing investors in the United States, China, and New Zealand.
   The ease with which it is now able to raise funds is an indication of how excited some very smart people are getting about its potential.
   But whether or not these people ever see a return on their investment, LanzaTech is already deserving of high praise for the methodical way it has managed its growth path.
   It has successfully followed the standard industry model for up-and-coming tech companies - that in itself is relatively rare for a local company.
   From fledgling start-up targeting wealthy angel investors it has moved through the venture capital phase - with bigger sums being invested by specialist investment funds.
   It has resisted the temptation to ride the hype and list early on the stock exchange, thus avoiding the pressures of unrealistic expectations from unsophisticated investors.
   Instead LanzaTech has focused on long-term deals, establishing its reputation in the United States and China where it will ultimately find its market.
   Now, with no desperate shortage of capital, it is starting to talk about a public float - perhaps as early as the second half of this year.
   When it does float it is likely to target New York's Nasdaq or the Shanghai Stock Exchange.
   Those exchanges will provide the company with a much higher profile and attract the attention of much larger investment funds than would a New Zealand listing.
   Still, LanzaTech chief Jennifer Holmgren has generously indicated that a dual listing on the NZX is being considered.
   That would be a coup for the NZX and provide an opportunity for interested local investors to take a stake.
   Which brings us back to all those reasons why small investors should be wary of this kind of high-tech stock.
   But never mind, we are going to hear a lot more about LanzaTech in the next 12 months and with any luck it will be exciting stuff that New Zealanders should celebrate.
   If LanzaTech can change the world and make billions along the way, it will also succeed in blazing a much-needed trail for other New Zealand technology companies to follow.

   Indian 12th Plan may target power capacity addition of 100000 MW
   
   For the 12th Plan Period (2012-17), the government may fix power capacity addition target at around 100,000 MW. This is the Power Ministry's proposal to the Planning Commission.
   
   Mr BK Chaturvedi at the India Energy Congress 2012 told reporters that “The final call would be taken by the National Development Council. It may be between 90,000 MW and 100,000 MW.”
   
   In his address, the Power Minister, Mr Sushilkumar Shinde called for strengthening research and development in power generation, transmission and distribution sectors.
   
   He said while progress in the sector had been made during the 11th Plan, a lot still needed to be done.
   
   The Minister said that during the 11th Plan period, the country has added about two and a half times the capacity that was added during the 10th Plan period. He said that 80,000 MW capacity was under construction for the 12th Plan.
   
   Mr Shinde also emphasized the need of energy conservation through efficiency improvement. He said that through various initiatives such as star labeling of products, the achievement in the avoided generation capacity during the 11th Plan will be over 10,000 MW.
   
   He asked the delegates to look into the issues such as prices of fuels and the local problems.

   RAECO working on 6 pilot renewable energy projects
   
   The Rural Areas Electricity Company which is spearheading the potential use of renewable energy for electricity generation in remote areas of the country is currently undertaking 6 pilot projects in partnership with private sector developers.
   
   Mr Hamed bin Salim al Maghderi GM of the state owned electricity distribution firm said that the small scale projects range in capacities from a mere 200 kW to 3.5 MW and are based on solar and wind energy.
   
   Mr Al Maghderi said that the renewable pilot schemes were among a number of initiatives launched by RAECO to strengthen electricity supply in areas unserved by the country’s two main grids the Main Interconnected System and Salalah System.
   
   He said that the six projects were shortlisted from a total of over 36 pilot proposals submitted by private developers for tapping Oman’s solar and wind energy resources for electricity generation. The selected projects have been distributed across the governorates falling within RAECO’s expansive and scattered licensed area.
   
   While the largest of the six pilots is a 3 MW solar based project in located in Haima in Wusta Governorate, the smallest is a 200 kW thermal energy based system under development at Mahout on the Wusta coast. Two wind energy based pilots, each of 3 MW capacity have been located at Masirah and Thamrait. The other two projects, both solar linked are located in Musandam and Wusta Governorates.
   
   Depending upon their viability and efficiency, RAECO will consider harnessing renewable energy to supplement electricity generation in far flung areas of the country unserved by existing distribution grids. Based on the performance of these pilots, RAECO could also consider building hybrid systems combining both diesel powered and solar based generation.
   
   RAECO currently operates around 47 diesel fired power plants to produce electricity for villages and towns situated outside the main grids. With electricity demand escalating at a hefty 13% annually, the company is keenly looking at renewables to supplement electricity production.
   
   RAECO’s licensed area extends from Musandam in the north of Oman, through the Interior and to the south but excludes the concession areas of Dhofar Power Company SAOG in Salalah and the jurisdictions of Muscat Electricity Distribution Company, Mazoon Electricity Company and Majan Electricity Company. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Electricity Holding Company SAOC.

   Nederlandse huishoudens hebben de afgelopen 15 jaar niet zoveel aardgas gestookt als gisteren. In totaal ging er toen 519 miljoen kuub gas door de Nederlandse pijpen. Het record staat op 567 miljoen kuub op 2 januari 1997, twee dagen voor de laatste Elfstedentocht.
   Een woordvoerder van de Gasunie kon vandaag niet uitsluiten dat het record deze week nog sneuvelt. Vermoedelijk zal dat niet komend weekend gebeuren, ook al is het dan extreem koud. 'Kantoren en scholen zijn dan dicht, dus er wordt dan aanzienlijk minder verstookt.'
   
   Een woordvoerder van energieleverancier Nuon zei dat er inderdaad meer gas wordt gebruikt. Volgens hem is het overigens makkelijk in te kopen, dus zijn er geen problemen mee te verwachten.
   
   Hij heeft een aantal tips voor mensen die energie willen besparen in deze koude tijd. 'Zet 's nachts de cv niet meer dan vier graden lager dan de temperatuur die je overdag hebt. Anders kost het weer extra om 's ochtends de kou te verdrijven.' Verder adviseert hij mensen 'op jacht te gaan' naar tocht en die te voorkomen . 'Sluit open raampjes, plaats tochtstrips.' Als laatste belangrijke tip raadt hij aan gordijnen (eerder) dicht te doen, maar ze wel weg te houden voor de radiatoren. (ANP/Redactie)

   MEA energy projects spend to hit USD 180 billion
   
   New power, water and energy projects valued at USD 180 billion are planned in the Middle East as the UAE forges ahead with 20 projects worth USD 34.2 billion.
   
   The organizers of an upcoming energy event in Dubai said that featuring more than 1,000 exhibitors, Middle East Electricity will take place from February 7th to 9th 2012 at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre.
   
   Ms Anita Mathews exhibition director of Middle East Electricity said that “According to the World Energy Council, the GCC will require 100 GW of additional power over the next 10 years to meet growing demand. The power sector will require USD 50 billion worth of investments in new power generating capacity and USD 20 billion in desalination.”
   
   Ms Mathews said that “In response, new contractor awards in the power, water and renewable energy sectors are being announced every month in the Middle East, as seen in December last year, when six new contractor awards were announced in Kuwait, Qatar and Iraq, valued at USD 1.5 billion while in January this year, 5 new contractor awards worth USD 130 million were announced in UAE, Kuwait and Oman.”
   
   She said that this too is reflected in exhibitor space occupied at Middle East Electricity 2012 which has exceeded last year’s occupied space by 15%. We have also seen growth in exhibitor numbers and expect more than 15,000 unique visitors to attend the 3 day event.
   
   Spearheaded by the USD 20 billion Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi which began construction late in 2011, the UAE will be one of the most active markets in the power, water and energy sectors over the next 2 years, at a time when power demand across all GCC countries is expected to grow 8% to10% annually.
   
   Saudi Arabia holds the lion’s share of investment value in the region, due to the USD 100 billion King Abdullah City of Atomic and Renewable Energy which begins construction in 2013. The Kingdom also has a further 15 projects worth nearly USD 9 billion currently underway or due to begin in 2012.
   
   Qatar recently announced plans to build at least 8 power and water facilities worth USD 4.8 billion in the next 3 years including the USD 3 billion Qatar Facility D power project which is slated to have construction started on in 2012.
   
   Meanwhile, Bahrain has four projects currently ongoing worth USD 4.2 billion; Kuwait has 17 projects valued at USD 4 billion while Oman has put aside USD 2.9 billion for 13 new power, water and energy projects which will begin construction in 2012.
   
   Elsewhere in the Middle East, Jordan has nine projects predominantly in the water sector worth USD 6.1 billion set to begin construction in 2012, while Morocco looks to make the most of its natural abundance of wind resources, earmarking USD 3.8 billion worth of renewable energy projects over the next two years.

   Khaleej Times cited Mr Saif Al Shamsi director of Excellence and Quality Department as saying that the CWM in Abu Dhabi targets to divert 90% of waste from landfills to the recycling industry by 2018.
   
   Mr Al Shamsi said that the Centre of Waste Management in Abu Dhabi targets to divert 90% of waste from landfills to the recycling industry by 2018. The emirate annually generates over 10 million tonnes of waste which has already occupied about 1,800 hectares of land for landfills. Abu Dhabi generates 33,000 tonnes of waste per day and the per capita waste generation is 1.8 to 2 kilograms per day.
   
   According to the centre, the dump and landfill sites which are located throughout the emirate have received a mix of waste streams, including municipal, construction and demolition, clinical, hazardous, industrial and commercial wastes, for more than 20 years.
   
   The centre is introducing new controlled management processes at existing dump and landfill sites throughout the emirate. The investigation and characterization of these sites are the first stage in producing definitive recommendations for the closure of the sites. More than 30 old dump and landfill sites have been identified for which rehabilitation services may be required.
   
   Some geological surveys were previously conducted but more relevant investigation and analysis is in process. This includes surveys, photographic records, soil and water data and waste analysis.
   
   In a bid to enhance the communication with all stakeholders, the Centre of Waste Management has opened up the front for new investments in green industry and recycling of waste in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
   
   Mr Saif Al Shamsi said that the new investment opportunities in green industry field and recycling are currently available for investors. These sectors include e waste recycling and processing, used cooking oils recycling and processing and establishing certified waste management consultants to support various waste management efforts undertaken by different entities in the emirate.
   
   He said that all stakeholders in waste management in general and the Environmental Service Providers in particular are CWM's strategic partners towards achieving the vision for a sustainable Abu Dhabi 2030.
   
   The CWM has registered and licensed 2,000 companies and establishments during the last 18 months which include 760 establishments practicing waste collection and transportation. Some 820 establishments are practicing cleaning services such as streets, beaches and building cleaning.
   
   The CWM has also registered and classified almost 100 establishments to work in the field of pest control and rodent fumigation. In addition, 215 facilities are registered for waste trading and 34 facilities for waste treatment and reprocessing in the emirate.
   
   Mr Al Shamsi stressed that the centre will continue to support the ESPs registered and licensed in the emirate, in line with its strategy to provide integrated waste management.
   
   He said that the center in coordination with relevant authorities is currently reviewing all the regulations in order to assure proper handling of waste transportation, noting that the centre has already registered and is monitoring 98% of the waste transportation vehicles in the emirate.

   GRONINGEN (AFN) - Het extreme winterweer zet tal van nieuwe onderdelen van de Gasunie volop in beweging. Dinsdag transporteerde de Gasunie 545 miljoen kubieke meter, het meest in deze eeuw, en deze datum neemt daarmee ook de derde plaats aller tijden in.
   
   Gasunie heeft nu de recent opgeleverde terminal voor vloeibaar aardgas op de Maasvlakte, de ondergrondse opslag in het Groningse Zuidwending, nieuwe compressorstations en vele nieuwe kilometers pijpleiding volop in bedrijf. ,,De gasrotonde draait op volle toeren'', aldus de Gasunie.
   
   Hoewel het netwerk op volle toeren draait is volgens topman Paul van Gelder de grens van het leveren van gas nog lang niet bereikt: ,,In de gaswet is vastgelegd dat Gasunie tot een effectieve etmaaltemperatuur van min 17 graden Nederland van gas moet kunnen voorzien. Zo is de infrastructuur ook ontworpen. De kans dat we die extreme temperatuur gaan bereiken, acht ik heel klein.''
   
   Ambitie
   
   Het grote gasveld van Slochteren raakt langzaam maar zeker leeg en Nederland heeft de ambitie om ook in de toekomst een belangrijke leverancier van gas in Europa te blijven, als 'gasrotonde'. Daarom wordt aardgas geïmporteerd en opgeslagen in ons land, waarna uitvoer kan plaatsvinden.
   
   ,,Deze koudegolf is een mooie test voor onze infrastructuur en we doorstaan die test met glans'', aldus Van Gelder.

   Miljardenverlies uitbater centrale Fukushima

   TOKIO (AFN) - Het Japanse energiebedrijf Tepco, de exploitant van de beschadigde kerncentrale van Fukushima, heeft in de periode april tot en met december 2011 een nettoverlies geleden van 623 miljard yen (6 miljard euro). Dat maakte Tepco maandag bekend.
   
   Tepco moest voor 2 biljoen yen (19,4 miljard euro) aan buitengewone lasten nemen vanwege de kosten door de kernramp, herstel- en opruimwerkzaamheden en compensatie voor slachtoffers. De kerncentrale van Fukushima in het noordoosten van Japan raakte in maart vorig jaar ernstig beschadigd door de zware aardbeving en de daaropvolgende tsunami.
   
   Maandag maakte de Japanse overheid bekend dat Tepco in totaal 1,6 biljoen yen aan staatssteun ontvangt. Dat geld is onder meer bedoeld om slachtoffers van de kernramp te compenseren voor de geleden schade.
   
   Boekjaar
   
   Voor het gehele boekjaar 2011/2012, dat eind maart afloopt, verwacht Tepco een nettoverlies van 695 miljard yen (6,74 miljard euro). Eerder rekende het concern op een verlies van 600 miljard yen.
   
   Tepco heeft naast de kosten voor de kernramp bij Fukushima ook te maken met hogere uitgaven voor grondstoffen voor energieproductie zoals kolen en gas. Na de kernramp werden veel kerncentrales in Japan stilgelegd.

   Bangladesh to add 11000 MW power in next 18 years
   
   bdnews24.com reported that Bangladesh government is planning to install coal based power stations around the country. Prime minister Sheikh Hasina told parliament that "PDB has invited tender bids for setting up the third unit of the 250MW power plant at the mouth of Barapukuria coal mine. The unit will come into operation in 2015."
   
   Adding that the government plans to add 11,000MW of power to the national grid in the next 18 years, she said that the government has already published a master plan on developing power generation, 'Power System Master Plan 2010', in February last year.
   
   She added that "Projects to set up power plants with a total capacity of 11,000MW using locally produced coal at the mouth of the mines in the country (northwest region) within 2030 have been included in the master plan for execution. The projects would be implemented step by step in future based on the detailed feasibility studies."
   
   Ms Hasina added that "A 15 strong expert committee has been formed to finalise the coal policy. The committee would give suggestions analysing impacts on the environment, geological structure and socio economical condition.”
   
   Replying to Awami League MP Tazul Islam, she said that "A pre qualification tender has been invited for building a second Padma Bridge on Paturia- Goalando and the Dhaka-Ashulia elevated expressway under public PPP (public-private partnership) scheme."
   
   Ms Hasina added that implementation of the two projects will start in her government's tenure after selecting the investors.
   
   She continued that the cabinet's public procurement committee has approved the BDT 124.3 million proposal to appoint consultants for the project to build a tunnel under the Karnaphuli river. She added that "The feasibility study will end within this year."
   
   The three kilometer long tunnel will cost BDT 45 billion and will take at least four more years to be complete.

    ARNHEM (AFN) - Het Nederlandse elektriciteitsverbruik is in januari gedaald, meldde netbeheerder TenneT maandag. Het verbruik kwam uit op 104.503 gigawattuur, een fractie minder (0,01 procent) dan in dezelfde maand vorig jaar.
    
    De ontwikkeling van het elektriciteitsverbruik laat nu al 8 maanden op rij een dalende trend zien in vergelijking met het jaar ervoor.

    ROTTERDAM (AFN) - Energiebedrijf Eneco denkt dat het nog jaren kan duren voordat er een vonnis komt over de splitsingswet. Eneco, dat het netwerkbedrijf niet heeft afgesplitst, denkt daarom dat de ,,status quo'' nog jaren blijft en dat het door kan gaan als een ,,geïntegreerde onderneming''.
    
    Eneco denkt dat het als ongesplitste onderneming beter werk kan maken van duurzame energie.

    MIDDELBURG (AFN) - Het Zeeuwse energiebedrijf Delta is tevreden met de uitspraak van de Hoge Raad over de splitsingswet. De Hoge Raad verwees de zaak vrijdag door naar het Europese Hof. Volgens Delta, een van de bedrijven die naar de rechter stapte, toont dat aan dat het gaat om een complexe zaak.
    
    Nederland is het enige land in Europa dat energiebedrijven dwingt zich op te splitsen. Volgens Delta is het toezicht op goed onderhoud van de netwerken ook zonder splitsingswet al prima geregeld en komt dat niet onder druk door investeringen in commerciële sectoren.

    DEN HAAG (AFN) - De Hoge Raad worstelt met de splitsingswet, die energiebedrijven dwingt zich op te delen in een commercieel bedrijf dat de energie levert en een bedrijf dat de distributienetten van stroom en gas in handen heeft. Het hoogste rechtscollege kwam vrijdag niet met een vonnis in deze zaak, maar stelt vragen aan het Hof van Justitie over de verenigbaarheid van deze wet met het Europees recht.
    
    De splitsingswet verbiedt de verkoop van de energienetten, die in handen zijn van provincies en gemeenten, aan commerciële bedrijven. Toen energiebedrijf Nuon werd verkocht aan het Zweedse concern Vattenfall, moest het netwerkbedrijf buiten de transactie blijven en dat gold ook voor Essent, toen dat energiebedrijf in handen kwam van het Duitse RWE.
    
    De energiebedrijven hebben zich steeds verzet tegen de splitsingswet, die in feite een verbod is om een deel van hun bezit te privatiseren. Delta, Eneco en Essent vochten de wet aan en kregen in juni 2010 gelijk van het gerechtshof in Den Haag. De Staat ging in cassatie en vrijdag bleek dat de Hoge Raad nog steeds niet toe is aan een vonnis.
    
    Gewoon doorgaan
    
    Eneco, dat het netwerkbedrijf niet heeft afgesplitst, gaat ervan uit dat een vonnis nog lang op zich kan laten wachten en wil gewoon doorgaan als ,,geïntegreerde onderneming'' die zowel energie levert als distribueert. Delta zei dat de uitspraak aantoont dat het gaat om een complexe juridische zaak en wees er nog eens op dat Nederland het enige land in Europa is dat energiebedrijven dwingt zich op te splitsen.
    
    De Brabantse gedeputeerde Bert Pauli, die het woord voert namens de voormalige publieke aandeelhouders van Essent en de huidige aandeelhouders van netwerkbedrijf Enexis, wacht een vonnis af. Wel wijst hij erop dat flinke kosten zijn gemaakt om het splitsen van Essent mogelijk te maken.
    
    De splitisingswet moet voorkomen dat energiebedrijven die verlies lijden op de verkoop van gas of stroom, dit kunnen afwentelen op afnemers die aangesloten zijn op hun leidingen. Ook moet de wet waarborgen dat er voldoende geld gestoken wordt in de netwerken van energie, zodat de levering niet in gevaar komt. Volgens de energiebedrijven is het toezicht op goed onderhoud van de netwerken ook zonder splitsingswet al prima geregeld.

    Energiemarkt Nederland in strijd met EU-wet

    BRUSSEL (AFN) - Nederland heeft Europese regels op het gebied van energie nog niet opgenomen in nationale wetgeving. Daarom krijgt het land van de Europese Commissie maandag een tik op de vingers en zal het binnen twee maanden moeten reageren op de aantijging.
    
    Volgens de Europese regels moet de energiemarkt worden opengesteld voor concurrentie. Een open energiemarkt biedt de consument meer keuzevrijheid. Nederland had EU-wetgeving hierover al voor 3 maart 2011 moeten doorvoeren, maar heeft dat niet gedaan, evenals zeven andere landen.
    
    Het dagelijks bestuur van de EU kan in het uiterste geval naar het Europees Hof van Justitie stappen als een land EU-wetgeving niet doorvoert.

    Aandeel hernieuwbare elektriciteit gelijk

    DEN HAAG (AFN) - In 2011 is 12 miljard kWh hernieuwbare elektriciteit geproduceerd en dat is goed voor 10 procent van het totale elektriciteitsgebruik in Nederland. Het aandeel van de 'duurzame' elektriciteit is daarmee ongeveer gelijkgebleven aan dat van het jaar ervoor, aldus het Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS) maandag.
    
    Er werd 5 procent meer energie gehaald uit wind, dankzij meer windmolens. De wind laat het de afgelopen jaren een beetje afweten. In 2010 was er bijna een kwart minder wind dan gebruikelijk, in 2011 leek het ook die kant op te gaan. ,,In december 2011 waaide het echter veel'', aldus het CBS en dat leidde zelfs tot een record voor de windmolens. Dankzij die laatste maand lag de windhoeveelheid in 2011 maar iets onder het langjarige gemiddelde.
    
    Uit biomassa werd ongeveer eenzelfde hoeveelheid elektriciteit gewonnen als in 2010. Het grootste deel van de hernieuwbare elektriciteit wordt in ons land gewonnen uit biomassa.

    Stedin investeert half miljard in netten

    ROTTERDAM (AFN) - Netbeheerder Stedin investeert dit jaar bijna 500 miljoen euro in de aanleg, het verbeteren en vervangen van gas- en elektricteitsnetten. Dat maakte Stedin woensdag bekend.
    
    Het is naar eigen zeggen voor het eerst dat de netbeheerder de jaarlijkse voorgenomen investering bekendmaakt. Stedin raakte in het verdomhoekje door een serie grote stroomstoringen, vorige maand in Rotterdam en omgeving. Onder druk van het Rotterdamse stadsbestuur besloot Stedin een onafhankelijk onderzoek te laten doen naar de stroomstoringen. De resultaten van dit onderzoek worden medio april verwacht.
    
    Een groot deel van de investeringen wordt besteed aan uitbreiding en verbetering van elektriciteitsnetten in Rotterdam, het Rotterdamse havengebied inclusief Maasvlakte 2, de regio Dordrecht/Zwijndrecht, de stationsgebieden van Delft en Utrecht en Goeree-Overflakkee. Het Zuid-Hollandse eiland Goeree-Overflakkee heeft een verouderd netwerk en werd de afgelopen jaren veelvuldig geteisterd door langdurigestroomstoringen.
    
    Storingsminuten
    
    ,,Wij willen bewoners, bedrijven en overheden op toegankelijke wijze inzicht geven in onze geplande grote werkzaamheden en projecten'', aldus het bedrijf.
    
    Volgens Stedin liep het aantal gemiddelde storingsminuten in zijn gebied vorig jaar terug van 28,3 naar 24,7.

    ARNHEM (AFN) - Elektriciteitstransporteur TenneT en de elektriciteitsproducenten gaan vanaf 1 maart inzicht geven in beschikbaarheid van de centrales.
    
    Op de website energie-info wordt dan actuele informatie over de beschikbare productie van elektriciteit getoond. Door meer inzicht te geven in actuele situaties, kan de markt beter anticiperen, aldus TenneT woensdag.
    
    Energiecentrales in Nederland zijn niet altijd in bedrijf. Er kan sprake zijn van een onderhoudsperiode of onverwachte uitval. Volgen TenneT leidt inzicht in de beschikbaarheid van centrales tot stabielere prijsvorming en een beter functionerende markt. Partijen die actief zijn op de energiemarkt, kunnen dan nauwkeurig afwegingen maken bij hun bedrijfsvoering.

    BAM werkt aan duurzame energie

    BUNNIK (AFN) - Bouwbedrijf BAM gaat samenwerken met de gemeente Hardinxveld-Giessendam om de nieuwe woonwijk De Blauwe Zoom van duurzame energie te voorzien. Dat maakte het bedrijf maandag bekend.
    
    BAM en de gemeente tekenen een exploitatieovereenkomst voor 40 jaar. Dat levert de bouwer een omzet op van 36 miljoen euro.
    
    In de komende jaren zullen in de wijk circa 650 woningen verrijzen. BAM Techniek - Energy Systems gaat een systeem opzetten waarbij elke woning is voorzien van een energiezuinige waterpomp die is gekoppeld aan bodembronnen. Dit maakt een gasgestookte cv-ketel overbodig, aldus het bedrijf.

    Huishouden meer kwijt aan energie

    DEN HAAG (AFN) - Een huishouden was vorige maand gemiddeld 156 euro kwijt aan gas en elektriciteit, 13 euro meer dan een jaar eerder, aldus het Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS) maandag.
    
    De leveringskosten voor gas stegen met 9 euro. Dat hangt voor een deel af van de olieprijs, die in 2011 sterk is gestegen. Doordat energie veelal vooraf wordt ingekocht, werkt dat pas in januari 2012 door in de tarieven. Ook de transportkosten en de energiebelasting stegen.
    
    De energieprijzen zijn bijna 120 procent hoger dan 15 jaar geleden, terwijl de inflatie met 35 procent toenam.

    Wintershall begint nieuwe gaswinning op zee

    RIJSWIJK (AFN) - De Duitse onderneming Wintershall begint met het winnen van gas in het Nederlandse deel van de Noordzee. Het bedrijf maakte dat dinsdag bekend dat daarbij nieuwe technieken worden toegepast.
    
    Wintershall begint in het K18-Golf veld met de productie van ongeveer 1 miljoen kubieke meter per dag en een tweede boring moet deze zomer 1 tot 1,4 miljoen kuub extra opleveren. Dat is dan voldoende om 250.000 huishoudens van gas te voorzien.
    
    Wintershall is met een belang van bijna 42 procent de leider van het consortium. De Duitsers kregen de concessie in 1983 en het gasveld werd ontdekt in 2005.
